Elisabeth Woodcock is now settled in the Brisbane run of Mary Poppins and loving every moment!
Ella Nicol is truly a star and is now playing as Annie in Annie - I'm sure you have seen her on tv as she has been conducting interviews non - stop! We are very proud of both of you!
McCarthy Studios began in 1987 as a jazz dance school called McCarthy Dance Academy. It has since evolved into a highly respected performing arts facility offering classes in the "triple threat" - dance, drama and singing. Classes are held in a relaxed and fun manner and attempt to cater to all students - from the casual "once a week" to the more seriously inclined. Over the years, using the skills they have learnt from the Studio, many students have taken leading roles in their school musical productions and in professional theatre. The confidence that the students gain is invaluable in their adult life and in whatever direction their employment takes them.
Principal of McCarthy Studios is Cheryl McCarthy who performed as a dancer/actor and then as a producer/ choreographer, firstly in Sydney and then in London. Cheryl is now a highly experienced teacher and, together with her skills learnt from working professionally, is able to bring the students to a very high standard which is evident from the successes the Studio enjoys, both in groups and in solo performances. Cheryl now divides her time between the studio and adjudicating throughout Australia.
We are excited to have some new teachers join us in 2012. We welcome Rosie Schwartz to the studio. Rosie is a qualified RAD Ballet teacher and also, a personal trainer! We are delighted to have her as part of the team.
We also welcome Sean Mahony - his resume stretches across working professionally around the world and teaching at all the major schools in Australia. We are very excited to see what he is going to create for our 14 years jazz group!
Tina Jackson is head of our singing faculty. Tina has completed courses at both W.A.A.P.A and NIDA and we are delighted to have her join us.
The acrobatics display was a huge success at the concert last year and Morgan Jannsen will once again be teaching the acrobatics (very popular classes!)
Anita Hicks is head of our junior classes. Anita has been with McCarthy Studios since she was five and is an excellent teacher, especially with the younger students.
Elizabeth Jackson is taking tap classes and assisting with the 10 years jazz group and we are delighted she finds time in between work commitments.
We strive to work together as a team and regularly hold meetings to ensure we continue to offer a stable and friendly environment for all our students.
